Canon Printer Setup Failed? Complete Fix Guide

Setting up a new Canon printer should be simple, but WiFi connectivity issues, driver conflicts, and setup software problems can make it frustrating. This guide covers every Canon setup scenario — wireless, USB, Windows, Mac, and mobile devices.

Before You Start: Preparation

• Remove all packing material, tape, and protective covers from the printer
• Install ink cartridges and load paper
• Power on the printer and wait for it to finish initialization
• Know your WiFi network name and password
• Connect your computer to the 2.4 GHz band (most Canon printers don't support 5 GHz)

Fix 1: Use the Correct Setup Method

Go to canon.com/ijsetup or ij.start.canon and enter your model number. Download the setup software for your OS. Do NOT search Google for "Canon driver" — there are many fake/scam download sites.

• Windows: Download .exe file → Run as Administrator
• Mac: Download .dmg file → Open and follow prompts
• Mobile: Use Canon PRINT app from App Store/Play Store

Fix 2: Put Printer in Setup Mode

The printer must be in "Easy Wireless Connect" mode for WiFi setup:

1. On printers with buttons: Press and hold the WiFi button until the orange alarm light flashes once
2. Release — the blue WiFi light should start flashing
3. On touchscreen models: Settings → WiFi Setup → Easy Wireless Connect
